Joint Workshop for Public Health and Medical Metrology
Public health plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health of populations around the world. However, the 21st century has brought unprecedented challenges, including the threat of pandemics, health disparities, and the issue of equity in access to healthcare services. At the same time, advancements in technology, data science, and interdisciplinary collaboration offer new opportunities for innovation. MMFG, in collaboration with TCQM, aimed to explore metrological solutions to address both current and future public health challenges by hosting an online workshop on October 10, 2024.
In particular, this workshop invited Professor Seung Min Park, the recipient of the 2023 Ig Nobel Public Health Prize, to share the results of his pioneering research on the Smart Toilet. Professor Park's research offers a unique opportunity to improve public health outcomes by utilizing various forms of human biometric and health data. Through his expertise and insights, the workshop sought to engage in a comprehensive discussion on strategies for improving public health, focusing on the integration of advanced technologies for health monitoring and early disease detection. In addition, research results related to the measurement standards for medical imaging devices, in vitro diagnostics, surgical devices and tonometers were also presented.
This workshop provided an opportunity to discuss cutting-edge research and development (R&D) in the field of public health as well as the need for measurement standards. MMFG plans to continue such efforts moving forward.
