APMP-APAC Joint Proficiency Testing Working Group
The Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP)-Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) Joint Proficiency Testing Working Group was established as a formal collaboration between APMP and APLAC in 2013. Since the establishment of the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC) on 1 January 2019 the collaboration was renamed as “APMP-APAC Joint Proficiency Testing Working Group” (herein referred to as “PTWG”). The activities of the PTWG are overseen by two Co-Convenors and permanent members representing both APMP and APAC.
Recognising the need to maintain and strengthen the links between accreditation and metrology in the Asia Pacific region, APMP and APAC have jointly organised some activities over the years. These included organisation of PT programmes for APMP metrology institutes and testing/calibration laboratories nominated by APAC’s member accreditation bodies, conduct of PT needs surveys, and organisation of capability building activities to enhancing measurement capabilities and improving understanding of various relevant international standards.
The PTWG has a dedicated team of representatives from APMP and APAC to provide oversight of its core activities, which is the organisation of joint PT programmes. These are designed to enhance the metrological capability and technical competence of participating institutes and laboratories. Metrologically traceable reference values are assigned for the joint PT programmes by metrology institutes which participate in parallel
international/regional key or supplementary comparisons, or by metrology institute(s) with existing calibration and measurement capability (CMC) published in the Key Comparison Database (KCDB) that underpins the Mutual Recognition Arrangement of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM MRA).
