Who We Are

The Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) is a grouping of national metrology institutes (NMIs) from the Asia-Pacific region engaged in improving regional metrological capability through the sharing of expertise and exchange of technical services among Member laboratories.

The APMP is one of the six Regional Metrology Organisations (RMOs) to implement the CIPM MRA for the worldwide mutual recognition of measurement standards and of calibration and measurement certificates.

It is also one of the Specialist Regional Bodies (SRBs) working with APEC to facilitate the development and implementation of standards and conformance infrastructures that addresses APEC goals.

APMP operates under the framework of APMP Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  which can be found at Publications. APMP sets up work plan through Strategic Plans.

MISSION

APMP's mission is to promote and support the development and international recognition of measurement infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region that facilitates international trade, improves industrial efficiency and competitiveness, ensures equity in the marketplace, and enhances the quality of life and the environment for its citizens.

VISION

APMP's vision is to be an inclusive, representative and transparent Regional Metrology Organization (RMO), providing leadership in meeting measurement challenges within the Asia Pacific region.

HISTORY

“In early years, the emphasis of APMP was on training and calibration assistance aimed at raising the level of metrology and expertise in primary standards laboratories within the region. This was achieved on a collaborative basis, usually working bilaterally between members. More recently, as rapid technological development and industrial growth have placed increased demands on metrological services, and there is growing recognition of the importance of metrology to international trade through conformance testing and quality systems, the emphasis in APMP has shifted towards gaining international recognition and credibility for its members.”

APMP was officially established

APMP has been operating in the Asia-Pacific since its inception as a Commonwealth Science Council initiative in 1977. Eligible membership was broadened outside the Commonwealth in 1980 when the present title (APMP) was established. As such, it is the oldest continually operating metrological grouping in the world.
