APMP and PTB Reaffirm Commitment to Even Stronger Cooperation

- MoU between APMP and PTB renewed -

On June 3, Dr. Hyunmin Park, Chairperson of the Asia-Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP), and Prof. h. c. Frank Härtig, Vice President of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between the two organizations in Braunschweig, Germany.

During the ceremony, Dr. Park emphasized the crucial role that PTB’s cooperation has played in developing the capabilities of national metrology institutes (NMIs) in developing economies. He expressed his deep gratitude to PTB for the support it continues to provide to the APMP Developing Economies Committee.

Dr. Park also highlighted the impact of the MEDEA 3.0 project, noting its success across various areas, including organizational systems, awareness, and technical and leadership capabilities. He pointed out that, in addition to providing valuable technical training, the project also supported strategic planning efforts and resulted in the creation of key knowledge products (e.g., policy briefs). The project also enabled the establishment of a knowledge management system (KMS) to facilitate the effective sharing and management of information within the community. “These initiatives have made a significant difference in helping our colleagues in developing economies achieve their goals, which makes me even more enthusiastic about our continued collaboration,” said Dr. Park.

Prof. Härtig, in turn, reaffirmed PTB’s commitment to the partnership, stating that the renewed MoU underscores the two organizations’ shared dedication to advancing metrology and developing metrological infrastructure.

With this renewal, APMP and PTB will continue to work together within a framework that includes:

• Joint activities and research projects.

• Shared use of research facilities and training programs.

• Mutual support and cooperation during events.

• Cooperative activities: Collaborative promotion and support to enhance the visibility and effectiveness of APMP and PTB.
