APMP Mid-Year Meetings, 2024

2024-11-19

Successful Conclusion of the APMP 2024 Mid-Year Meetings
- Hosted by NML-ITDI in the Philippines, providing opportunities for in-person collaboration and exchange -

The APMP Mid-Year Meetings were successfully held from 24 to 28 June 2024 in Panglao Island, Bohol, Philippines. Hosted by the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of the Philippines, these meetings provided a valuable platform for metrologists from the Asia-Pacific region to discuss key issues in measurement science.

These meetings were of particular significance as they were the first fully in-person APMP event since the pandemic. Participants could engage each other face-to-face to strengthen collaborative relationships and discuss a variety of metrology-related topics in greater depth. We held numerous meetings throughout the week-long event at the Bellevue Resort, including meetings of the Executive Committee, Technical Committees, Developing Economies’ Committee, and Working Groups, and an international symposium was also organized.

Experts from various economies shared and reviewed APMP's major ongoing initiatives and explored future plans for collaboration. Of particular note was the "International Symposium on Establishing Traceability in Time and Frequency Measurements," keynoted by Dr. Jeffrey A. Sherman of NIST. The discussions held during this symposium were particularly timely and relevant given that we are approaching the next redefinition of the International System of Units (SI), where time is expected to take center stage.

The APMP Secretariat commented, "From the feedback we received from the participants, we can confidently say that this year’s Mid-Year Meetings were a resounding success. The meetings were made possible thanks to the active participation of the participants and the excellent organization and warm hospitality of the ITDI. We will continue to foster such excellent cooperation among APMP members to contribute to the advancement of measurement science in the Asia-Pacific region.”

The next APMP meeting will be the 40th General Assembly and Related Activities, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India during November. The General Assembly is expected to be held in a hybrid format to encourage greater participation than ever before.
