Workshop on Rotational Speed Metrology and Pilot Comparison of Optical Tachometer Calibration
TCAUV_01_TCI2022
The TCI project, titled “Workshop on rotational speed metrology and pilot comparison of optical tachometer calibration”, was launched in September 2022. Through the combined efforts of all the participants in conducting experiments, analysing data, and organising knowledge-sharing activities, the project concluded with remarkable results in October 2024.
Regarding the rotational speed comparison results, the comparison revealed the current calibration capabilities of the 6 participants from 2 RMOs, APMP and AFRIMETS. NIM, NMC and NIS used mechanical generators for calibration, with expanded uncertainties in the order from 10-3 to 10-5. NML, NIMT and KEBS used optical simulators for calibration, with expanded uncertainties in the order from 10-4 to 10-5. The detailed comparison results were published in the journal Metrologia, titled “Final report of APMP.AUV.V-S2: supplementary comparison on calibration of laser tachometers using mechanical generators or optical simulators”.
Furthermore, the APMP TCAUV workshop on digitalization in AUV metrology and rotational speed metrology was held in Hangzhou, China in October 2024. The workshop was organized by NIM, China, and the technical guidance and hands-on training in the rotational speed field were provided. Over 30 metrology experts from China and various Asia-Pacific countries, including South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, attended the workshop in person.
Overall, the TCI project has effectively enhanced the global measurement service capacities of optical tachometers. It has also firmly laid a technical foundation for future key comparisons of optical tachometers at the APMP TC level, and potentially even at the CC level, indicating a positive advancement in rotational speed metrology.
